Super-Pharm Overcharges for Basic Goods, Investigation Reveals
An investigation by C14 has revealed that the Israeli pharmacy chain Super-Pharm significantly overcharges for basic hygiene and cleaning products compared to other pharmacies and major food retailers. The report highlights five everyday items where consumers pay substantially more at Super-Pharm, underscoring the importance of price comparison to combat the high cost of living.
Among the products examined, Colgate children's toothpaste (Barbie, 50ml) was found to be priced at 18.90 shekels at Super-Pharm, while selling for 11.90 shekels at Good Pharm. Herbal Essences' sulfate-free conditioner with aloe vera (250ml) cost 18.90 shekels at Super-Pharm versus 14.90 shekels at Good Pharm.
Further examples include Lily toilet paper (18 mega rolls), priced at 42.90 shekels at Super-Pharm compared to 37.90 shekels at Good Pharm. Head & Shoulders 2-in-1 anti-dandruff shampoo and conditioner (625ml) was 27.90 shekels at Super-Pharm, while Good Pharm offered it for 22.90 shekels. Finally, Gef's liquid hand soap with seaweed (1 liter) was 13.90 shekels at Super-Pharm, compared to 10 shekels at Good Pharm.
The investigation concludes that purchasing from Super-Pharm represents a systematic overcharge for consumers, making it an unfavorable option for Israelis already grappling with daily living expenses. Super-Pharm had not yet provided a response at the time of reporting.
