Google Gemini AI Can Now Make Calls for You
Google has announced a new feature for its Gemini artificial intelligence assistant that allows it to make phone calls to businesses on behalf of users, aiming to eliminate long hold times and complex voice menus. The AI can handle tasks such as booking restaurant reservations by dialing the business, navigating automated phone systems, waiting on hold, and speaking with a representative to complete the request.
During the call, users can follow a live transcript in a chat window and see the responses from the business representative. The user also has the option to take over the conversation at any point if needed. To ensure transparency, Gemini identifies itself at the beginning of the call and clarifies that it is calling on behalf of the user.
Google is initially rolling out this feature in a limited capacity due to the sensitivity of automated calls to businesses. Currently, it is available only in the United States for users of Pixel 11 devices who subscribe to a paid Gemini plan and are enrolled in the public beta program. The feature is not yet available in Israel.
The closest local alternative mentioned is the Israeli development Speedy, which makes calls to service centers, waits for a human representative, and then connects the user.
