Israeli Forces Clash With Settlers Near Nablus, Foiling Family's Return Home

Israeli security forces clashed with over 100 Israeli settlers who rioted near Nablus overnight Monday, preventing the return of a Palestinian family to their home in the village of Jalud. The settlers arrived in response to an organized effort to help the Toubasi family reclaim their house, which they had abandoned in July following a series of nationalist crime incidents. The Israeli military and Border Police attempted to facilitate the family's return, but the escalating violence, which included setting fire to vehicles and a house, forced the operation to be aborted. The Toubasi family had petitioned Israel's Supreme Court, known as the High Court of Justice or "Bagatz," to be allowed back into their home, with the court ordering the state to justify why it would not act to secure their return. Simultaneously, calls circulated within settler groups to prevent the family's return. The ensuing chaos saw multiple fires ignited in the village, with residents attempting to extinguish the flames.
