Sderot Mayor Calls for Hamas Destruction, Rejects 'Containing Terror' Policy

Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi, in a festive interview hosted by Shimon Riklin, recounted the harrowing moments of the October 7th Hamas infiltration into his city. Davidi described his initial confusion, mistaking the attack for a drill, before the grim reality of a full-scale invasion set in.

Davidi articulated a firm security doctrine, stating that the concept of "containing terror" must be removed from Israel's lexicon. He emphasized that Israel cannot afford to return to the pre-October 7th security posture, arguing that a small nation like Israel cannot defend its borders from their current positions. He stressed that there is no room for compromise on security, advocating for the complete destruction of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah.

Recounting the personal impact of the attack, Davidi shared that October 7th also marked his 50th birthday, with his entire family present. He described the jarring transition from family celebrations to confronting the terror attack unfolding within the city. He also detailed his journey to the municipal command center with the city's security officer, Ronen Gabai, who was later injured.

Davidi urged that lessons must be learned from the events and that decision-makers must ensure the security of Israeli citizens. He reiterated that the security reality prior to October 7th is unacceptable and must not be allowed to return.
