Book European River Cruises for Passover Now, Experts Advise

Israeli travelers are increasingly drawn to European river cruises, especially for Passover holidays, due to the convenience of unpacking once and visiting multiple cities and countries. However, demand is high, and booking well in advance, often a year ahead, is crucial, according to travel industry experts.

Siman Ovadia, CEO of the travel company "Bashvil Ha'zahav" (Golden Path), which has organized river cruises for 17 years and estimates having taken 60,000 travelers on such trips, emphasizes the need to book early for popular periods like Passover. He highlights that river cruises offer a seamless logistical experience, eliminating the need for constant hotel changes and packing, allowing travelers to enjoy the changing scenery from their floating hotel.

Ovadia explains that organized river cruises offer distinct advantages over independent bookings. These include a dedicated Israeli tour guide throughout the trip, organized excursions at each port of call, and often a more attractive price point due to group bookings. The onboard experience is typically that of a five-star floating hotel with gourmet meals, providing a more intimate and unhurried travel style compared to traditional sea cruises.

While river cruises are available year-round, spring, coinciding with Passover, offers pleasant temperatures and lush landscapes. Ovadia advises that for Passover 2027, bookings should be made by autumn 2026. The company offers various themed cruises, including family-oriented trips, cultural events with Israeli artists, and kosher-for-Passover options.

When choosing a river cruise, Ovadia recommends inquiring about the presence of a full-time Israeli guide, the inclusion of shore excursions, the total cost beyond the cruise fare, and the actual occupancy rate of the ship. He stresses that booking without pressure, well in advance, leads to the most satisfying travel experiences.
