Israeli Demand for Cruises Surges with Families and Couples Booking Early

The popularity of cruise vacations among Israelis is reaching new heights this year, with cruise companies reporting a sharp increase in bookings for the summer and the Jewish High Holidays. More families and couples are opting for cruises over traditional vacations involving flights and hotels. Industry experts attribute this trend to Israelis’ renewed willingness to plan trips months in advance, the appeal of all-inclusive pricing, and the convenience of having accommodation, meals, entertainment, and activities bundled together.

MSC Cruises reports a 50% rise in demand compared to last year, noting a shift from last-minute bookings driven by security concerns to earlier reservations, helped by a relatively low dollar exchange rate. Royal Caribbean also sees a significant surge, with many bookings already made for summer 2027, especially for Mediterranean and Caribbean cruises. Meno Shipping, the only Israeli company operating cruises departing from Israel, has experienced a 20% to 25% increase in demand, with a notable rise in families traveling with children alongside young couples.

Popular destinations vary by company but generally include short weekend cruises to Cyprus, week-long trips to Greek islands, Italy, and Malta, as well as Western Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Northern Europe routes. Prices range widely: MSC offers Caribbean cruises starting around $720 per person, Royal Caribbean’s prices typically range from $800 to $1,100, and Meno Shipping’s seven-night Greek cruises start at about 1,100 euros per person. Prices usually cover the cruise, lodging, and meals but exclude tips, drink packages, shore excursions, and personal expenses.

Key differences exist between companies. Meno Shipping’s cruises depart from Haifa, eliminating the need for flights abroad, and offer fully kosher food. International lines like MSC and Royal Caribbean sail from European or U.S. ports, requiring additional flights, though kosher meal options are available on some routes with advance notice. Industry insiders expect cruise vacations to become an increasingly popular choice for Israelis seeking a predictable, all-in-one holiday experience without the hassle of multiple hotel bookings or separate service arrangements.
