U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to travel from Tuesday through Thursday to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain, according to State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott.
Pigott said Rubio is also expected to meet the Gulf Cooperation Council, or GCC, during the trip. The bloc includes Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman, in addition to the three countries on Rubio’s itinerary.
The visit comes as many Gulf leaders are worried about the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran. One source of that concern is the creation of a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran, which has heightened unease in the region.
