Ayla Hasun: A Look at the Israeli Journalist's Career

Ayla Hasun, a prominent Israeli journalist and news anchor for "Kan 11," is celebrating her birthday. Born in Jerusalem in 1961, Hasun grew up in the Talpiot neighborhood to a family of Egyptian and Syrian descent. She studied interior design and graduated from the "Koteret" School of Journalism and Communication in Tel Aviv, also holding a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from Tel Aviv University. Fluent in four languages Hebrew, Arabic, English, and French, Hasun began her journalistic career at the "Maariv" newspaper before joining the Israel Broadcasting Authority (the First Channel) in 1993.

Her career includes a significant scoop in 1997, exposing a political deal concerning the appointment of Roni Bar-On as government secretary. This revelation led to a police investigation and considerable political upheaval. Hasun also broke barriers by becoming the first woman to head the news division of the First Channel. She has anchored major news programs throughout her career, including "Yoman" on the First Channel and "Shishi with Ayla Hasun" on Channel 13.

In 2023, Hasun moved to the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, "Kan 11," where she currently hosts the daily program "Shava with Ayla Hasun" and anchors Friday broadcasts. Beyond television, she has hosted prominent current affairs programs on radio, including on Reshet Bet and Makhan (Arabic radio). Hasun has received numerous professional awards for her investigative and journalistic work, including the Knight of Quality Government award and an award for excellence in journalism. She is married to Shi Nashir, a producer and media figure, and they have two children.
