Nine additional communities in northern Israel were formally recognized on Monday as border-defense, or confrontation-line, localities, making them eligible for the benefits and support measures reserved for such areas. The newly added communities are Sde Eliezer, Kisra-Sumei, Yesud HaMa'ala, Or HaGanuz, Miron, Bar Yohai, Safsufa, Beit Jann, and Hula.
Defense Minister Israel Katz informed the local authorities of the decision and its implications for residents. He said, “This is an important and just decision that gives the residents of these communities the proper recognition and the rights that come with their status as confrontation-line communities.”
Katz also tied the move to the strategic importance of northern settlements, saying residents of the north have been “on the front line for a long period” and that their resilience helps Israeli forces continue their mission to protect the north. He added, “The lesson from recent years is clear: strong settlement is a top-tier security asset.”
