Border Police motorcycle officers carried out a dramatic pursuit yesterday on Route 65 in the Wadi Ara area after spotting two ATV riders without license plates, speeding on the highway and committing dangerous traffic violations, including performing wheelies between lanes. One rider complied and stopped for inspection, but the other, a 20-year-old from the village of Arara, accelerated and tried to flee.
According to helmet-camera footage released by police, the officer first signaled the riders to stop, then chased the fleeing ATV as its siren blared. The most dangerous moment came at the central Arara junction, where the suspect drove through a red light while pedestrians were crossing and forced private cars to brake suddenly to avoid a collision.
The Border Police officer managed to maneuver through traffic, close in on the ATV, and block it. He then jumped off the moving motorcycle, rushed the suspect, pulled him off the seat as the rider raised his hands in surrender, laid him on the road and handcuffed him while traffic continued around them.
Police said the suspect was taken for urgent criminal questioning at the Arraba police station. His driver’s license was suspended for 30 days, and a temporary seizure order was issued for the ATV, which was towed to a police impound lot for one month. Border Police and Israel Police said enforcement against dangerous drivers will continue across all sectors.
