Border Police motorcycle officers carried out a targeted enforcement operation yesterday on Highway 65 in the Wadi Ara area when they spotted two ATV riders driving on the highway without license plates and committing dangerous traffic violations, including lifting the front wheel and weaving at high speed between lanes.
The officers ordered both riders to stop. One complied, but the second, a 20-year-old from the village of Ar'ara, accelerated and fled. Helmet-camera footage from a Border Police officer shows the chase from the officer’s point of view as the ATV cuts away and the police siren closes in.
The suspect then entered the busy Ara junction on a red light while pedestrians were crossing, forcing private cars to brake sharply to avoid a crash. The officer managed to maneuver around the traffic, close in on the ATV, block it, and then jump off his motorcycle while still moving. The suspect raised his hands in surrender, after which the officer pulled him off the seat, forced him to the ground, and handcuffed him.
The suspect was taken for urgent criminal questioning at the Iran police station. Police also suspended his driver’s license for 30 days and issued an immediate administrative seizure order for the ATV, which was towed away and impounded for a month. Border Police and Israel Police said the firm enforcement against reckless drivers and road bullies would continue.
