Settlers Attack West Bank Village, Burn Car, Issue Threats

Settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Deir Abu Mashal, west of Ramallah, early Tuesday morning, burning a car and scrawling racist graffiti. Ahmed Shahada, a resident of the village and a retired Palestinian police officer, recounted the incident, stating he awoke around 2:30 AM to an explosion and the smell of fire. He discovered his car ablaze and attempted to extinguish it with a water pump, but the vehicle was largely destroyed.

Local sources confirmed the attack, noting that property was targeted. Shahada stated that police and military forces arrived after the incident. He also revealed that his home had previously been vandalized with threatening messages warning of future attacks.

Shahada described the recent establishment of several settler outposts surrounding Deir Abu Mashal, with settlers frequently seen in the area during the day. He indicated that these movements are often accompanied by graffiti containing threats against residents, linking Tuesday's attack to a growing regional tension.

Residents are increasingly concerned about accessing their agricultural lands, particularly with the approaching olive harvest season. Shahada expressed that villagers feel anxious about going to their fields due to the ongoing attacks and threats. He added that the presence of army patrols does not provide a sufficient sense of security, leading some residents to fortify their homes with walls and fences.

"There is no safe place in the West Bank," Shahada stated, reflecting the residents' feeling of constant pressure and lack of security options. He questioned where residents could find safety amidst the escalating violence and threats.
