Beit Shemesh Municipality Warns Residents of Fake SMS Scam

The Beit Shemesh Municipality issued a public warning on Tuesday after a fraudulent SMS message began circulating among residents. The fake text message falsely claimed recipients had an outstanding debt to the municipality and urged them to settle it by clicking a provided link.

The deceptive message, which mimicked an official communication, stated that the municipality's collection systems showed an unpaid debt and threatened collection proceedings and asset seizures if payment was not made. The municipality clarified that the SMS is a fabrication and strongly advised residents against clicking the link, entering any personal or credit card information, or making any payments through it.

Beit Shemesh officials emphasized that all payments and official inquiries to the municipality should exclusively be conducted through its authorized channels. The warning aims to prevent residents from falling victim to phishing attempts and potential financial fraud.
