Palestinian Student Suspended in Netherlands After Posting Hamas Clip
A 22-year-old Palestinian student from Gaza has been temporarily suspended from Maastricht University in the Netherlands after posting an Instagram video of himself watching footage of Hamas terrorists during the October 7th attacks, claiming "It's me." The student, Hussein Issa, reportedly deleted the video shortly after posting it. Local news outlet De Nieuwe Ster Maastricht reported the incident on Sunday. Authorities are investigating, though they currently have no proof that Issa is one of the terrorists depicted in the video he was watching.
Issa arrived in the Netherlands only a few months ago and was brought to the country at the initiative of Maastricht University, which applied for his temporary residence permit on April 8th. The Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) approved the request. The video was reportedly filmed during a gathering with friends at a student house.
Far-right leader Geert Wilders called for the "Hamas trash" to be expelled from the country and demanded the education minister be prosecuted. The incident occurred on the same day a large pro-Palestinian demonstration took place in Maastricht, under the slogan "Cut ties with Israel! End complicity in genocide, occupation, and apartheid." Organizers claimed Western governments, institutions, and companies continue to support Israel militarily, economically, academically, and culturally, demanding an end to the occupation in Judea and Samaria and the war in Gaza.
According to the report, Issa also posted other videos from various locations in Maastricht, including near the city's Lambertus Church.
