Dutch University Suspends Gaza Student Over Hamas Attack Claims

Maastricht University in the southern Netherlands has temporarily suspended a student from Gaza after he posted a video on social media claiming to have participated in Hamas's October 7th terror attack on Israel. The video, reportedly filmed in student housing and since deleted, showed the young man watching footage of the massacre, pointing to a masked assailant, and stating in English, "That's me." A university spokesperson confirmed to local broadcaster L1 that the video could cause unrest, explaining the suspension was intended "to ensure that education can continue to take place safely." The university administration will now assess whether and under what conditions he can continue his studies, noting that it lacks the legal authority to investigate the complaints and referrals received on the matter.

According to an investigation by the newspaper "De Telegraaf," the university awarded scholarships to five students from the Gaza Strip and had submitted a temporary residency permit application for this student, which was approved in April. It was also revealed that the student has approximately 30,000 Instagram followers, where he posts parkour videos alongside jihadist content and a post wishing for his own death in battle following his brother's death in Jabalia.
