Ireland Coach Calls Israel Match Preparation 'Terrible' Amidst Difficult Times

Ahead of Sunday's Nations League match between Israel and Ireland, Irish national team coach Heimir Hallgrímsson described the past week as the most challenging of his career, stating, "This was the most challenging days for me as a coach, and I guess for all of us, including the players. This is a situation we haven't been in before." He acknowledged the mixed emotions among his players, particularly the younger ones, and emphasized his role in protecting them while focusing on the football aspect of the game.

Hallgrímsson admitted that the team's preparation for the match had been "terrible" due to the circumstances. "As one might expect, the preparation was very, very bad," he said. "I just hope the players will come here and put on a good performance. We are here to play football."

Despite the difficulties, the coach expressed hope that the team could unite around the national squad following the recent events. "If we get through this, we will be stronger afterwards. I hope something good will come out of all this, but I know this is a difficult and complex situation," he concluded, noting that regardless of actions taken, there will always be opposition.
