Gerrer Hasidim Concerned as Rebbe Skips Holiday Prayers Due to Weakness

Thousands of Gerrer Hasidim worldwide are expressing concern over the health of their Rebbe, who is reportedly suffering from weakness, possibly due to a cold contracted from spending time in the Sukkah. The Rebbe's condition has led to him missing several key prayer services during the intermediate days of the Sukkot holiday. He did not attend morning prayers or the "shaking of the lulav and etrog" ceremony during Hallel, nor did he participate in afternoon or evening prayers on Sunday. An update from his aide indicated the Rebbe would also miss Monday morning prayers.

Despite his absence from some services, the Rebbe was present for the entirety of Hallel and Hoshanot prayers. During evening prayers on the first day of the holiday, he entered alone and offered a greeting to the sons of a prominent donor. Later, he joined a meal, sitting down after the "Shehecheyanu" blessing and delivering several "vort" (teachings) during the meal. He followed tradition by eating unsalted challah and distributing wine bottles to those assisting him.

Two circumcisions took place on the morning of the holiday. During the Torah reading, the Rebbe remained seated until the Torah scroll was brought near him, at which point he stood, kissed it, and sat down again. Following evening prayers on the first day, he conducted a "Good Holiday" tour, interacting with congregants, including a brief moment where he cautioned a child to be careful. He then continued to bless individuals for about an hour and a quarter, with smaller groups admitted later.

A minor kitchen fire occurred in the office area before morning prayers, but fire crews quickly extinguished it without any injuries. Dr. Simons was observed praying morning services with the thousands of Hasidim in the main prayer hall.
