The three Israelis killed in a light plane crash in Washington on Sunday were identified as Yoav Bomrind of Zikhron Ya'akov, David Rabinovitch of Haifa, and Elad Neidik of Toronto. According to the report, Bomrind and Rabinovitch will be buried in Israel, while Neidik will be buried in Toronto, Canada.
The aircraft was flying from New Jersey to Montgomery County, Maryland, when it went down east of Washington, less than 32.2 kilometers from the city. By early morning, rescuers had found the plane with the pilot and two passengers dead inside. Officials said there were no survivors and believed those three were the only people on board.
The search began after local dispatchers received an automatic crash alert from one of the victims' iPhones, prompting a large response from law enforcement, fire and rescue teams. Search crews spent hours looking before locating the wreckage at 3:45 a.m. in a wooded area behind a housing complex and a playground on Scarlett Oak Terrace.
Authorities said the debris field covered about 100 feet. Maryland police were dispatched to the scene, and the National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation with help from local and state officials.
