Gabi Kanyevsky Focuses on Soccer, Not Distractions, Ahead of Ireland Match

Gabi Kanyevsky, who rejoined Maccabi Tel Aviv last summer and has been a key player in their strong start to the league season, is set to start for the Israeli national team against Ireland on Sunday. Speaking to Sport Channel ahead of the crucial match, Kanyevsky expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the national squad for important games.

When asked about putting political matters aside for the game, Kanyevsky stated, "We are not dealing with nonsense and are truly coming to play soccer and after Thursday, to get a good result tomorrow. So we are entirely focused on the game." He emphasized the significance of the match for the team's future.

Kanyevsky, who has been instrumental in Maccabi Tel Aviv's powerful performances this season, acknowledged the challenge posed by Ireland's physicality. "Yes, it's their game, long balls and that, but I think with the soccer and quality we have, it can work in our favor. We came prepared and know what we need to do, we were prepared well and God willing tomorrow we will do it," he said.

He further elaborated on the responsibility he feels representing Israel. "I will always do my best 100%, especially in the Israeli national team. You know it's more than a symbol, it's representing the people at home, the reservists, the soldiers at home, everyone watching, the people we have lost too. So we really have a responsibility and I think everyone knows what it means to be in the Israeli national team these days and I hope we succeed in doing it."
