Maccabi Haifa is reportedly pursuing reinforcements for next season and has its scouting network looking as far as Scandinavia. A Danish report published Monday says the Israeli vice-champions are showing strong interest in midfielder Mathias Christensen, with close monitoring of the player from Aalesund in Norway.
Christensen, 24, is described as one of Scandinavian football’s pleasant surprises over the past year. He revived his career at FC Helsingor in Denmark, then moved to Norway last summer, where he became a key player for Aalesund and helped lead the club to promotion to the top division in January.
His production has drawn attention, with 9 goals and 14 assists in just 37 appearances for Aalesund. Those numbers, unusual for a central midfielder, are part of what has put him on Haifa’s radar.
A transfer, however, would be complicated. Christensen is under a long-term contract with Aalesund through the end of 2028, and other clubs are also chasing him. The report says Belgian surprise package RAAL La Louvière has already submitted several formal offers, but Aalesund has yet to respond and is holding firm. Dutch side Heerenveen is also following him closely.
