An Israeli Air Force aircraft struck a vehicle in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Monday morning, killing a militant who was riding in it. The person killed has not yet been identified, and the IDF has not issued an official statement on the strike’s details.
This was the second strike the IDF carried out in Gaza on Monday. Earlier in the morning, an aircraft hit a jeep in the upscale Rimal neighborhood in western Gaza City. Palestinians first reported at least two dead, then revised the figure to a 17-year-old girl killed.
The military usually waits about 24 hours between a strike and an official announcement identifying the target. The IDF is expected to release the name and details of the person killed in the latest strike only on Tuesday, after examining findings and completing identification.
The strike comes amid a series of targeted killings in Gaza in recent weeks. Last week, two operatives in Hamas’s money-transfer network were killed, after helping move more than NIS 500 million to the group’s military wing. On Friday, the IDF killed Zakhi Yusef Mahmoud Abu Mustafa, a Nukhba commander in Khan Younis Brigade of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, who took part in the October 7 massacre, entered Kibbutz Nir Oz, and helped abduct Yagil Yaakov. The IDF said Abu Mustafa had recently worked extensively to restore the group’s capabilities in Gaza, in violation of the ceasefire agreement. Two more militants were also killed over the weekend, including Muhammad Said Ahmed Namrouti, who was involved in holding many hostages in Hamas tunnel captivity, and Muawiya Suleiman Saqar Aidi, who took part in the attack on Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7.
