Maccabi Haifa is said to be working hard on strengthening its squad for next season, and a Danish report on Monday said the Israeli club is closely monitoring midfielder Mathias Christensen. The 24-year-old, who plays for Norwegian club Aalesund, is described as one of Scandinavian football’s pleasant surprises over the past year.
Christensen revived his career at FC Helsingor in Denmark before moving to Norway last summer. There, he became a key player and helped Aalesund win promotion to the top division in January. His production has also drawn attention: in just 37 appearances for Aalesund, he scored 9 goals and added 14 assists, unusually strong numbers for a central midfielder.
Despite Maccabi Haifa’s interest, the deal would be complicated. Christensen is under a long-term contract with Aalesund through the end of 2028, and his performances have attracted other clubs in Europe as well. According to the report, Belgian surprise side La Louviere is currently the most concrete suitor and has already submitted several formal offers, but the Norwegians have not responded and are standing firm.
Dutch club Heerenveen is also monitoring the player. The report suggests Haifa is one of several clubs interested, but no agreement appears close at this stage.
