Opposition Leaders Meet to Forge Election Strategy Amid Internal Tensions

Opposition leaders convened at the Tel Aviv home of opposition chief Yair Lapid on Tuesday evening in an effort to unify their ranks following a week of public disputes and mutual accusations. The meeting included Naftali Bennett, Gadi Eisenkot, Avigdor Lieberman, and Yair Golan, who discussed strategies for coordinated action in the final month before the upcoming elections.

The recent friction within the bloc stemmed from disagreements over the "big party" strategy championed by Eisenkot's "Yashar!" party. This approach faced opposition from Bennett, Lapid, and Lieberman, who advocated for focusing on expanding the entire bloc rather than bolstering a single party. Earlier in the week, Eisenkot and Lieberman met privately to de-escalate tensions and agreed to work towards a mutual ceasefire.

Central to Tuesday's discussion was the division of target demographics to prevent internal competition and attract new voters. "Yisrael Beiteinu" is expected to focus on drawing former right-wing and Likud voters, while Eisenkot's party will aim for the traditional public and moderate religious Zionists, partly through a dedicated campaign office led by Matan Kahana.

The bloc is also closely monitoring "Am Israel" party, led by Ofer Winter, which polls suggest is surpassing the electoral threshold and could significantly alter the balance of power. Beyond voter segmentation, the leaders addressed coordination between field operations, refining joint messaging, and the possibility of outlining governmental principles for the post-election period.

However, no binding agreement was reached, with several contentious issues remaining unresolved, particularly regarding potential coalition partners and sensitive political matters such as the conscription law.
