Belgian Intelligence Links Iran to Attacks on Jewish Targets

Belgium's top security official has stated that Iran was behind two attacks targeting Jewish sites in the country in March. Gert Vercauteren, head of the Belgian Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis, told local media that the perpetrators acted on Tehran's instructions as part of a broader campaign against Jewish targets worldwide.

The first incident occurred on March 9, when an explosive device was detonated near a synagogue in Liege. Later that week, a car was set on fire near the Jewish quarter of Antwerp. Neither attack resulted in casualties, but both were immediately handed over to the federal prosecutor's terrorism investigation unit.

Vercauteren described these events as the peak of Iran-attributed activity within Belgium. He also noted that intelligence services identified links to thwarted attack plots in the Netherlands, including an attempt to bomb a synagogue in the city of Maastricht.

These revelations highlight a significant escalation in Iranian-backed operations targeting Jewish communities in Europe, underscoring the reach of Tehran's alleged clandestine activities.
