Irish Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu Led Boycott Against Israel National Team

Irish goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, formerly of Southampton, has reportedly led a boycott by at least seven players against the upcoming match with the Israel national team. Bazunu, who was Southampton's first-choice goalkeeper until the arrival of Israeli player Daniel Peretz last season, is said to be the instigator of the player protest. Peretz's transfer to Southampton was described by Saints correspondent Alex Comber as a massive upgrade, comparing it to moving from 'Flappy Bird' to 'Mortal Kombat'.

Bazunu remained with Southampton until the end of last season, but the club decided to keep Peretz and release the Irish goalkeeper to Bolton. Now, Bazunu finds himself in opposition to Peretz again, though they will not face each other on the field. Bazunu has conceded six goals in three games this season, including a hat-trick in a 3-2 loss to West Ham, where Manor Solomon plays.

Another Irish player who played with Peretz last season and remains at Southampton is Finn Azaz, whose mother was raised in Israel. Azaz is expected to participate in the match. While the Irish national team has announced it will play against Israel, the player boycott remains a significant issue within the squad.
