Gavin Bazunu's Struggles Highlighted by Daniel Peretz's Rise

Irish goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu is reportedly leading a group of five players who do not want to play against Israel in the upcoming Nations League match, a game described as being "beyond football." Bazunu's current form and career trajectory are contrasted sharply with that of Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.

Bazunu was previously Southampton's goalkeeper until the arrival of Daniel Peretz. Peretz, on loan from Bayern Munich, joined Southampton on January 8th, and five days later, Bazunu was loaned to Stoke City. Alex Comber, a reporter covering Southampton, described the transition from Bazunu to Peretz as potentially "the biggest upgrade in football history," comparing it to moving from "Flappy Bird" to "Mortal Kombat."

During the previous Championship season, Bazunu kept only five clean sheets in 25 appearances, conceding 36 goals while making 55 saves. In contrast, Peretz recorded seven clean sheets in 20 appearances, conceding just 18 goals and making 58 saves, helping Southampton narrowly miss promotion to the Premier League.

When Bazunu returned to Southampton and Peretz went to Bayern Munich, English media expressed concern about Peretz's potential return, noting that Southampton had "finally found a man they could rely on between the posts." The media suggested Southampton would have to revert to Bazunu, who was responsible for "far more mistakes and damage than his replacement."

Ultimately, Peretz returned to Southampton, leading to Bazunu's departure again, this time to Bolton. At Bolton, Bazunu has conceded six goals in three appearances, including three in a 3-2 loss to West Ham featuring Manor Solomon. He has also been benched for three games and kept only one clean sheet.
