Manor Solomon Faces Scrutiny Over Referee Comments After Israel Match

Israeli footballer Manor Solomon may face disciplinary action in England following his remarks about the refereeing during Israel's recent 3-1 loss to Austria. Solomon, who plays for West Ham, expressed his dissatisfaction with the officiating after teammate Sayed Abu Farhi was controversially sent off.

Abu Farhi equalized in the 56th minute but was shown a second yellow card and subsequently red-carded for his goal celebration. He had removed a corner flag and appeared to use it like a pool cue. Having already received a yellow card three minutes prior, Abu Farhi's dismissal left Israel with ten players before they conceded two late goals.

Solomon stated after the match that he believed the yellow card was unwarranted and added, "We know the refereeing is not always in our favor." These comments have reportedly caught the attention of relevant authorities in England.

Former FIFA referee Keith Hackett told "West Ham Zone" that the referee's decision was correct, calling Abu Farhi's celebration provocative and excessive, potentially delaying the restart of play. Hackett indicated that Solomon's statements would likely be reviewed.

While no formal proceedings have been announced against Solomon, the situation remains uncertain. Meanwhile, English media outlets like the "Mirror" have also discussed Abu Farhi's celebration, with some suggesting he mimicked a billiard cue. UEFA confirmed to the "Mirror" that the official reason for the second yellow card and subsequent red was Abu Farhi's unsportsmanlike conduct during the celebration, citing rule 12 of the Laws of the Game which allows for yellow cards for excessive or provocative celebrations.
