Israel's UN Envoy Offers Starlink Device to Iranian Delegation

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, presented a Starlink satellite internet device to members of the Iranian delegation at the UN on Thursday. The device, previously displayed during a speech by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was offered with the statement, "I thought it appropriate to give you a Starlink device. It might be very useful in helping the Iranian people regain their freedom after what you have done to them. Would you like to take it and return it to Tehran?"

The incident was captured in a social media video showing the Israeli diplomat approaching the Iranian delegation with the device. Danon added, "We love the Iranian people and pray that God changes the regime."

This gesture follows multiple instances of internet disruptions in Iran. In January 2026, a nationwide internet blackout occurred during protests against the government, with connectivity gradually restored the following month. Another internet shutdown was imposed on February 28, coinciding with the start of US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran. Access was only resumed in mid-May, after an 88-day outage.

Starlink, developed by Elon Musk's SpaceX, provides internet access via satellite and can bypass some terrestrial infrastructure controlled by authorities.
