A 51-year-old man died on Saturday night during a Goose concert at Madison Square Garden in New York after falling from the venue’s upper level, according to New York police. CBS reported that the fall happened shortly before 10 p.m., and the man suffered fatal injuries. Emergency crews found him unconscious, and he was later pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital in the city.
After the incident, Goose posted on Instagram that the band was “sad and heartbroken” over the tragedy and sent its “deepest condolences” to everyone affected. The group also thanked emergency responders and venue staff for their support and assistance. A Madison Square Garden spokesperson told Variety that the venue was awaiting the police report, and said it was saddened by the loss of a fan, adding, “Our hearts are with his family and friends.”
Goose is a rock band from the U.S. East Coast, formed in Connecticut in 2014. Its members are Rick Mitarotonda, Peter Anspach, Trevor Weekz and Cotter Ellis. Despite the accident, the concert continued and ended around midnight, and the band performed again the following day as part of its tour at Central Park.
In a later Instagram post, the band said it was “all shaken up” by what happened and that the news was devastating for the group and its crew. It said the Central Park show would go ahead as planned, explaining that after considering whether to perform, the band decided the best thing it could do was bring the community together, lean on one another and create space for healing. “So let’s be good to each other tonight and remember our friend,” the band wrote.
