Latvian Defense Minister Visits Israel to Discuss Security Cooperation and Arms Deals

Latvian Minister of Defense Raimonds Bergmanis conducted an official visit to Israel, meeting with his Israeli counterpart, Defense Minister Israel Katz, and Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Amir Baram. The visit also included meetings with representatives from leading Israeli defense companies such as Rafael, Elbit, and Israel Aerospace Industries. The discussions focused on expanding bilateral security cooperation, strengthening ties between defense industries, and addressing regional challenges. Bergmanis expressed particular interest in Israel's air defense technologies, including loitering munitions, artillery systems, and radar complexes, indicating Latvia's potential acquisition of these advanced systems. He highlighted the reliability of Israeli military products, proven in combat, and emphasized Latvia's desire for swift procurement processes. Additionally, Latvia is studying Israel's border protection strategies and methods for countering modern threats. During the visit, Bergmanis conveyed solidarity with Israel and condemned attacks by Iran, noting shared threats faced by partners in the Middle East and Europe.
