Hapoel Tel Aviv Basketball Team Faces Disappointment After EuroLeague Loss

Hapoel Tel Aviv is reeling from a dramatic 86-84 EuroLeague loss to Bayern Munich on Thursday, despite erasing an 18-point deficit. The defeat has led to a tense atmosphere within the team, with reports of shouting in the locker room following the game. Head coach Dimitris Itoudis expressed his dissatisfaction, telling his players, "We cannot perform like this." Owner Ofer Yanai, present at the game, held a lengthy discussion with Itoudis and conveyed his disappointment with the team's performance, which has also been subpar in the Super Cup loss to Maccabi Tel Aviv and some preseason games. Chairman Stav Shaham also spoke with the coaching staff.

American player Elijah Bryant was a focal point of criticism after scoring 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting, with three assists and two turnovers. "He hasn't played in the last three games and it showed on the court," sources within the club stated. "He could have had minutes in the preseason games. It seems he is sometimes preoccupied with things other than Hapoel Tel Aviv, and he is the one who is supposed to carry the team."

On a more positive note, the club highlighted the performance of Jake Tuffin, who scored 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting in his EuroLeague debut, adding two steals. Tuffin commented, "I think we showed good things as a team. We learned, we came back into the game. We need to find ways to avoid getting into such holes, but we showed good signs." He added, "We are going to fight every night. Every opponent is good, we need to understand there are no easy games. We need to learn from this game. I am currently focused only on our team's ability and what we can do as a team, which of course includes me."

Hapoel Tel Aviv confirmed that all foreign players will return to Israel for the Winner Cup quarterfinals.
