Hapoel Tel Aviv Falls to Bayern Munich in EuroLeague Opener After Late Gamble
Hapoel Tel Aviv suffered a painful 86-84 defeat to Bayern Munich in their EuroLeague season opener on Thursday, despite erasing an 18-point deficit. The favored Israeli team struggled for much of the game but mounted a significant comeback.
With just over two seconds remaining and the score close, Hapoel had an opportunity to tie the game and force overtime. Instead of attempting a game-tying three-pointer, coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos surprised by calling for an alley-oop attempt to Antonio Blakeney.
However, Bayern's Tobias Jensen anticipated the play, touched the ball, and prevented Hapoel from completing the move, securing the victory for the German team. Hapoel missed several chances to win the game before the final play.
