Ukraine's Human Rights Ombudsman Clarifies Israeli Citizen's Mobilization

Ukraine's Human Rights Ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, has clarified the circumstances surrounding the mobilization of an Israeli citizen at a border crossing, refuting claims that the individual was conscripted as a foreign national directly at the checkpoint. Initial reports on Ukrainian social media suggested a Hasidic Israeli man was taken to a military unit after passing through border control, leading to speculation of mobilization at the point of entry.

Lubinets stated that upon reviewing the publications, he conducted an investigation. The man presented an Israeli passport, but checks confirmed he also holds Ukrainian citizenship. Following verification of his Ukrainian citizenship and military registration status, he was handed over to the National Police of Ukraine. "Therefore, the assertion that a foreign citizen was mobilized directly at the checkpoint is not true," Lubinets said.

The ombudsman further corrected information regarding the man's family, denying reports of six children. According to available data, the individual has one daughter, and two other children belong to his wife. Lubinets urged the public to distinguish between confirmed facts and speculation and assured that he is monitoring the situation.
