Israeli-Ukrainian Pilgrim Detained, Drafted into Ukrainian Army After Uman Visit

A 49-year-old Israeli-Ukrainian dual citizen, identified as a Breslov Hasid and father of six from Beitar Illit, was detained at the Ukraine-Romania border while returning from Uman. The man, originally from Ukraine, was reportedly drafted into the Ukrainian army against his will. According to the publication "Ba-Hadarim Haredim," he was identified as liable for military service during a border check, during which he spoke Ukrainian with border guards. He was then taken for further inspection and detained. His family has lost contact with him and does not know his current whereabouts. Representatives of the Breslov Hasidic community and rabbis are working to locate him, and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has become involved. The family reportedly lacks the financial means to hire legal counsel. Ukrainian law mandates military service for citizens aged 18 to 60, and holding dual citizenship does not exempt individuals from this obligation.
