Ukraine Border Guards Deny Mobilizing Israeli Citizen

Ukraine's State Border Guard Service has addressed media reports concerning the detention of an Israeli citizen returning from Uman after Rosh Hashanah celebrations. The service clarified that the individual holds dual citizenship, possessing both Israeli and Ukrainian passports. According to the statement, foreign nationals are not checked for military registration in Ukraine when crossing the border, and the Border Guard Service itself does not conduct mobilization activities at border crossings.

During border processing, it was determined that the individual also held Ukrainian citizenship and was listed as wanted in military conscription records. Consequently, border guards transferred the man to representatives of the National Police of Ukraine for further verification, acting within their legal authority. The Border Guard Service asserted that reports of mobilizing a foreign citizen directly at the border crossing are factually inaccurate.

Media reports identified the detained individual as Yonatan Karlinsky-Mashak, a 49-year-old native of Ukraine who repatriated to Israel 14 years ago. He is a father of six and resides in Beitar Illit. His family reported his mobilization.
