Wayne Rooney Reveals Jewish Heritage, Son Kai Eligible for Israeli Citizenship

Football legend Wayne Rooney has revealed his Jewish roots during a podcast appearance, a disclosure that grants his 16-year-old son, Kai Rooney, eligibility for Israeli citizenship under the Law of Return, despite Kai not being Jewish through his mother. Kai Rooney is currently a promising talent in Manchester United's youth academy, playing above his age group. He previously set a record for goals scored by a player aged 12 and under in the Manchester United academy, netting 56 goals. He also had a stint at Manchester City's academy before returning to United.

Kai is considered a significant talent, attracting interest from other English clubs, but has remained with Manchester United's academy. He plays alongside Michael Carrick's son. Like his father, Kai started as a forward but has transitioned to playing on the wing. Comparisons have been drawn to Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli, particularly regarding his ability to make runs behind the defense and find open space.

Rooney's son is currently on a two-season scholarship with Manchester United. While some fans have noted a perceived stagnation in his development over the past two seasons, he has been promoted to play with older age groups. He will celebrate his 17th birthday during his second scholarship year. Following this period, the club will decide whether to advance him to the reserve team or release him.
