Groundcover Acquires Israeli Startup Wand for Tens of Millions
Cloud monitoring platform Groundcover has acquired Israeli startup Wand for tens of millions of dollars. Wand, founded in 2023 by Sean Lev-Ran and Shir Monitzer, had previously raised approximately $4 million in seed funding led by Angular Ventures. Following the acquisition, Wand's founders and its ten employees will join Groundcover.
Wand develops technology that enables organizations to automatically and efficiently manage their cloud infrastructure resources. Groundcover, established in 2021 by CEO Shahar Azulai and CTO Yechiel Rabinowitz, serves over 250 clients. This marks Groundcover's first acquisition, occurring just two months after the company announced a $100 million funding round. To date, Groundcover has raised a total of $160 million.
The Groundcover system collects data on cloud software and infrastructure operations, allowing companies to understand real-time system activity. It assists development teams in identifying issues, diagnosing performance slowdowns, and pinpointing changes that preceded problems. The acquisition of Wand enhances this capability, moving beyond mere identification and understanding to enable automatic decision-making and infrastructure modifications.
For instance, if an AI service causes a surge in computing demand, the system can automatically allocate more resources. Conversely, it can scale back resources when demand decreases. The goal is to maintain performance and availability while preventing over-allocation of computing resources. "Observability has evolved far beyond a tool to help engineers understand what went wrong," said Shahar Azulai, CEO and co-founder of Groundcover. "AI agents rely on production data to develop software, investigate failures, fix, and operate systems. Autonomous infrastructure also requires the ability to act safely based on this information. Wand has invested years in developing this capability within Kubernetes environments, and we are connecting it with Groundcover's broad understanding of what's happening in systems. The integration of production understanding with the ability to act upon it is the foundation we are building for autonomous infrastructure."
