Finance Minister Smotrich Enters Galilee Area Amid Tensions
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich entered the al-Rous area near the town of Majd al-Krum in the Galilee on Thursday morning under heavy security. Hundreds of Israeli flags were displayed around Majd al-Krum overnight, an initiative by Smotrich's Religious Zionism party, following tensions in the town.
The Religious Zionism party had announced it would hold an emergency meeting of its faction at the site of a newly established outpost near Majd al-Krum. This action follows a week of controversy sparked by the erection of tents and infrastructure on land near Majd al-Krum, which led to protests by the town's residents.
The Jewish National Fund (Keren Kayemeth) had announced on September 15th the dismantling and removal of temporary structures from the site. Smotrich has previously announced a plan called "Judaizing the Galilee," which aims to transfer the model of "Hilltop Youth" outposts from the West Bank to the Galilee and Negev regions, ostensibly to strengthen governance and assert Israeli control.
