ATM Skimming Ring Busted in Tel Aviv Area, Over 40 Victims Targeted
Tel Aviv District Police fraud investigators arrested a 57-year-old Bat Yam resident on Wednesday suspected of orchestrating Israel's largest ATM skimming operation. The suspect allegedly installed skimming devices on Bank Leumi ATMs across Tel Aviv, Holon, and Bat Yam over recent months.
During a covert investigation prompted by over 40 victim complaints, police, in cooperation with Bank Leumi, identified the suspect. He is accused of copying card information from the devices, transferring it to other cards, and withdrawing funds from private ATMs, causing financial damage exceeding 120,000 shekels (approximately $33,000 USD) to the victims.
Authorities searched the suspect's home, seizing numerous cards and technological equipment used for card duplication. The suspect was taken for questioning, and a court extended his arrest pending further investigation.
