Election Committee Chair Halts Proceedings for Prayer for Injured Reservist

The chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Justice Noam Sohlberg, paused the proceedings on Thursday morning, the second day of discussions for the 26th Knesset, to lead attendees in prayer for the recovery of Master Sergeant (Res.) Neriah Leiter.

Leiter, a reservist, was critically injured in a vehicular attack on Route 443. Before commencing the debates on disqualifying lists and candidates, Sohlberg requested a moment of collective prayer and hope.

"Before we get to work, I ask to dedicate a shared moment for prayer and hope," Sohlberg stated. He then spoke about Neriah, the son of Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, who was fighting for his life in the hospital. "Yesterday, Neriah Leiter, a reservist, was seriously injured in an attack. He has done much for the public good. We are here and he is in the hospital fighting for his life."

Sohlberg invited everyone present to join the Leiter family and the many others praying for his well-being, reciting a passage from Psalms: "Heal us, Lord, and we shall be healed; save us, and we shall be saved." Following the prayer, the committee members resumed their work on the disqualification requests.
