Irish PM Defends NYC Mayor Against Netanyahu's Hamas Claims

Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin met with New York City Mayor Eric Adams and strongly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Martin called Netanyahu's accusations that Adams supports Hamas and incites against Jewish people in the city "lies." He stated that Netanyahu should "respect" the mayor more.

Martin suggested that the timing of Netanyahu's remarks, coinciding with elections in Israel, might be politically motivated. "There are elections in Israel now, and we must be careful not to get drawn into a campaign that might benefit some of those involved," Martin commented.

During the meeting, Adams was also questioned about whether he would encourage the Irish public to boycott watching their national team play against Israel. Adams responded by expressing his high regard for the Irish people and stated that the decision to boycott would be left to them.
