Israel's Defense Minister Slams Turkish President as 'Paper Sultan'

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz launched a scathing verbal attack on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan following Erdogan's anti-Israel remarks at the UN General Assembly. The Turkish leader had accused Israel of aggression and responsibility for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In response, Katz posted on social media, calling Erdogan a "paper sultan" who is strong in delivering "antisemitic and provocative speeches" but "weak in action." Katz advised Erdogan to stop engaging with Israel, asserting that the Jewish state is strong and capable of defending itself. He contrasted Israel's strength with the "defenseless Kurds" whom he accused Erdogan of oppressing in Turkey.

Katz further characterized Erdogan as someone who makes sharp statements and harbors ambitions of reviving the Ottoman Empire but avoids concrete action in crises. He cited Turkey's lack of response to Iranian missile attacks on its territory and its failure to protect Saudi Arabia after Houthi attacks on Mecca as examples of this inaction.

The Israeli defense minister also accused Turkey's leadership of supporting and funding terrorist groups, while Israel is engaged in a legitimate fight to protect its citizens from Hamas. The post included a quote in Turkish, reiterating Katz's criticism of Erdogan's rhetoric versus his actions.
