Arab Israeli Lawmaker Slams Leftist Party Over Knesset Candidate Ban
Arab Israeli lawmaker Ahmed Tibi has strongly criticized the "Democrats" party and its leader Yair Golan for supporting the disqualification of Sami Abu Shehadeh from running in the upcoming Knesset elections. Tibi stated on Thursday that Golan's joining forces with Itamar Ben-Gvir, a right-wing politician, is a "mark of Cain" that will not be erased from the Democrats' "forehead" and constitutes a "slap in the face" to the entire Arab public, including those who do not agree with Abu Shehadeh or the Joint List party.
The Central Elections Committee disqualified Abu Shehadeh, a candidate from the Balad party, from the elections on Wednesday. In an unusual move, Committee Chairman Judge Solberg announced he would join the vote due to the severity of the case. The decision now moves to the Supreme Court for a final ruling.
In related news, the Central Elections Committee also disqualified the United Arab List (Ra'am) party, led by Mansour Abbas, from participating in the elections.
