Massachusetts Man Sentenced to Nearly 10 Years for Threatening Jewish Congressman and His Children

Edwin Guerrero, a 26-year-old from Massachusetts, has been sentenced to federal prison for nine years and 11 months, along with a $15,000 fine. The severe penalty follows his conviction for threatening the life of Florida Congressman Randy Fine and his children. The threats were made via social media in August 2024, during Fine's tenure as a Florida House representative. Investigators traced the threats to an internet address in Spain.

One of the messages, accompanied by an image of a person holding a handgun, was sent to Fine's staff stating, "Looks like I'm taking a trip to Broward County, Florida, let's play a game." Other messages included threats that Fine's sons would suffer the same fate and that he would force them to watch their father suffer.

Upon his return to the United States from Spain, investigators found antisemitic and anti-Israel browsing history on Guerrero's mobile phone, including searches such as "Israel needs to burn in hell." Guerrero pleaded guilty to sending the threats in March.

During the sentencing phase, Congressman Fine testified that the threats sent chills down his spine. "My sons are now victims of a crime. I was afraid for myself and I was afraid for them," the congressman stated. U.S. Attorney Gregory Kehoe commented on the sentencing, emphasizing that U.S. law enforcement will not tolerate threats against public officials or citizens based on their political or religious beliefs and will prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law.
