Arab Parties and MK Kessif Challenge Disqualification Bids Before Supreme Court

The legal team from Adalah, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, participated in deliberations before the Central Elections Committee regarding disqualification requests against Arab political lists and candidates. Adalah represented the Joint List, the United Arab List, the National Democratic Alliance party, and Knesset Member Ofer Cassif, along with the party's head, Sami Abu Shehadeh.

Adalah reported that the committee approved all disqualification requests discussed, except for the one targeting the National Democratic Alliance, which was rejected on procedural grounds. The legal center argued that the disqualification process itself, and the nature of the requests, were politically motivated, describing them as "arbitrary, inflammatory, and racist" and lacking necessary evidence.

Adalah stated that the Central Elections Committee pursued an "unlawful path" aimed at "persecuting ideas and legitimate political activity not favored by the majority." Following the committee's decisions, Adalah announced its legal team would represent the affected lists and candidates in appeals to the Supreme Court next week, challenging the committee's rulings.

The case now moves to the judicial phase, with Adalah preparing to contest the disqualification decisions at the Supreme Court level.
