Over 50 Nations Urge Russia to Agree to Immediate Ukraine Ceasefire

More than 50 countries have issued a joint statement calling on Russia to agree to a complete, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine and to engage in substantive peace negotiations. The statement was presented by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga ahead of a UN Security Council meeting.

According to Ukrinform, the signatories reminded that Ukraine had already agreed to such a ceasefire in March 2025. "We call on Russia to finally do the same as a necessary step towards meaningful diplomacy and negotiations leading to peace," the statement read.

The document also expressed concern over ongoing Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, as well as attacks in the Black Sea. These actions, the statement noted, threaten Ukrainian grain exports and global food security.

The statement was joined by most European countries, as well as Israel, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and several Latin American nations.
