Russia Warns Western Military Forces in Ukraine Will Be Targeted
Russia has escalated its rhetoric in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine by threatening Western military forces operating on Ukrainian soil. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated this week that any Western military presence in Ukraine would become a target for Russian forces. When asked if the West was fully aware of this risk, Zakharova responded, "I think they are completely aware."
Zakharova also commented on potential negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, referencing former U.S. President Donald Trump's stance on Ukraine. She said, "The goals are defined and the tasks set. If realistic proposals arise, no one here will ever reject them."
This warning comes shortly after a Russian missile strike hit Kyiv, causing casualties and damage. The attack occurred just hours before the expected arrival of outgoing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who was scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a related development, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President Zelensky signed a new agreement in Kyiv to significantly expand joint production of drones. Zelensky noted that Ukraine currently produces about 10 million drones annually, aiming to double that output to 20 million through cooperation with the European Union.
