Russia Launches Missile and Drone Attacks on Kyiv Amid Rising Iran-Ukraine Tensions

On Thursday, Russia launched a missile and drone attack on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, as well as the cities of Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih. The assault involved a large number of drones and missiles targeting Kyiv, following a prior warning from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about imminent Russian strikes. This escalation occurs amid growing tensions between Iran and Ukraine, linked to Tehran's military cooperation with Moscow, which Kyiv alleges includes supplying drones and military components to Russia.

The recent damage to an Iranian cargo ship in the Caspian Sea has heightened fears of a direct military confrontation between Iran and Ukraine. However, diplomatic efforts have so far prevented an Iranian military response. Just two days earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Zelensky spoke at the funeral of Graham, discussing the shared threat posed by drones, particularly FPV drones controlled via fiber optics that evade electronic warfare systems.

An Israeli official told the New York Post that drone threats are a common challenge for both Israel and Ukraine. Netanyahu was reportedly impressed by Ukraine's adaptation and development of counter-drone capabilities. The conversation between Netanyahu and Zelensky was unplanned, initiated by Netanyahu, and also covered Ukraine's military situation and the effectiveness of new technologies, according to Ukraine's ambassador to Washington.
