Ukraine Embassy Urges Israel to Join Global Pressure on Russia, Iran

The Ukrainian Embassy in Israel has called for a unified international effort to increase pressure on Russia and Iran, following the U.S. Congress's approval of a new, stringent sanctions package. The embassy emphasized that the cooperation between Moscow and Tehran fuels Russia's ongoing aggression and poses security threats to other nations. This appeal comes after the U.S. Congress finalized legislation aimed at intensifying pressure on both Russia and Iran. The bill has passed both chambers and awaits the signature of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has indicated his intention to sign it.

"Russia and Iran are cooperating, and democratic countries must act together against them," stated the Ukrainian Embassy's appeal. The diplomatic mission highlighted key measures within the U.S. bill, including sanctions targeting Russia's energy and defense sectors, President Vladimir Putin, and other high-ranking Russian officials. It also includes further restrictions on the "shadow fleet" used by Moscow to bypass oil export sanctions, and potential tariffs on countries continuing to purchase Russian oil and gas.

The legislation grants the U.S. president expanded authority to exert pressure not only on Moscow directly but also on its major trading partners. Concurrently, the bill extends existing sanctions against Iran. The Ukrainian Embassy in Israel cited this combined U.S. approach as a reason to draw attention to the bilateral cooperation between Russia and Iran.

Kyiv believes that increased pressure on both countries and reduced access to resources funding their military activities are essential. The embassy asserted that the Russia-Iran partnership enables Moscow's war against Ukraine and presents a broader threat to democratic states.
