Tony Parker Expresses Concern Over ASVEL's Readiness for Maccabi Tel Aviv

ASVEL Villeurbanne, coached by Tony Parker, is set to face Maccabi Tel Aviv in their opening game of the 2026-2027 EuroLeague season. However, the French team is reportedly concerned about their insufficient preseason preparation.

"We have only been training for a week. We are a month, maybe even a month and a half, behind everyone else in terms of preparation," stated Parker. He acknowledged the team's lack of readiness, emphasizing that it can no longer be an excuse and that they must find solutions to meet the required level. Parker expressed anticipation for a strong response from his team.

Assistant coach Vincent Collet echoed Parker's sentiments, agreeing that the team will not be ready to face Maccabi. He noted that while it's impossible to be fully prepared, he understands Parker's motivation to be on the sidelines and his passion for basketball. Collet praised Parker's progress in the last week and at a tournament in Cagliari, highlighting his precise interventions.

Player David Lighty commented on Parker's coaching style, describing him as a player-coach with an NBA style and European feel, who understands players' needs. Guard Edwin Jackson also addressed the team's preparation, admitting it was not optimal but expressing confidence in their potential for improvement.
